Raymond Sipos (United States, b. 1938) is descended from a family of Hungarian musicians and violin makers. After studying for a Bachelor of Science degree in California, he worked as a mechanisms and optics engineer before becoming a full-time artist in 1972. The artist generates ideas for his paintings by browsing through hundreds of color slides which he has developed through the years. Armed with a camera, he goes to unusual locations to photograph whatever intrigues him. Dynamic compositions and a vibrant palette are hallmarks of the work of this popular and avidly collected American artist. He migrated from oil on canvas to oil on board because he could achieve greater precision for his realistic seascapes.
