Description:

An Austro-Hungarian M.1895 Mannlicher carbine bayonet in scabbard with top mounted front sight in scabbard. Grip with rivet retained wooden scales has release catch to the rear left and rivet retained cross guard. The top of the muzzle ring fitted with a windage driftable fore sight to allow correct aim of the carbine with the bayonet attached. Fullered single edged spear point blade with the cutting edge unusually to the top when fitted to the carbine, a feature of issue Mannlicher bayonets. The blade struck to one side FG over GY with Austrian Royal crest to the other side. In its correct pattern steel scabbard with frog hook to the rear stamped FG GY. Designed to fit the Mannlicher carbine these scarce bayonets are of the same pattern as the 1895 rifle bayonets but have a front sight built into the muzzle ring to give the correct sight picture and elevation setting when fitted to the short carbine. In good condition with good grips and blade, working catch and a matching manufacturer scabbard. A scarce variant of an Imperial Austrian bayonet that would have seen service through WW1 and beyond.
