Scroll on left reads: In the early months of 1775 after years of colony discontent, King George III, decided to use military force to assert British sovereignty. The scroll on the right reads: On the night of April 18th, patriot, Paul Revere rode from Charlestown to Lexington to warn colonists of the British advance. The War of Independence had begun. Individually numbered. || M92 | 1992 " Declaration of Independence " | Features the Continental Congress, as they gathered around to sign the Declaration of Independence. Scroll on the left reads: In the spring of 1776, the Continental Congress turned to the question of declaring independence from Great Britain. The scroll on the right reads: On June 7, 1776, the fateful resolution authored by Thomas Jefferson, calling for independence from England, was introduced in Congress. Scroll on the left reads: Considered by many the outstanding act of Jefferson's two presidential terms, The Louisiana Purchase was completed in 1803, doubling the area of the United States. The scroll on the right reads: Using a $2,500 appropriation from Congress, the President sent his secretary, Captain Meriwether Lewis and frontier soldier William Clark, in 1804 to explore the source of the Missouri and the region beyond.
