The Monson House was established in St. Augustine in 1880s. In the 1960s, after "surviving 2 fires, it was demolished and replaced by the Monson Motor Lodge. The Monson Motor Lodge became a critical part of the Civil Rights Movement when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was arrested on the steps of the restaurant on June 11, 1964.
