This is what I can tell you (and was told by owner)about this one of a kind item. First, the gentleman I got it from is from Ohio where he collected Automobilia items his whole life from early gas pumps to signs & oil cans. He moved here 20+ years ago and sold most everything in Ohio but kept this piece; his pride & joy! Now it doesn’t look like a whole lot to me; nor do I think it’s worth a fortune. I just don’t know this type of stuff. But he told me (was in hospice when I met him n just passed away) that this item is a metal stamp made that was never actually put into use. He said this was Socony Vacuum where their logo was a Gargoyle. In 1931 he said Mobil bought them out and changed logo to a flying Pegasus. This particular metal stamp with raised letters & logo was to mark 10 gallon cans but never went into production. This is dated 4/25/32 as pics show. He told me I’d never see or find another and to the right buyer it’s worth thousands because it’s just plain rare. This is honestly all I know about it. It’s something where if you’re a collector or know one, this “specialty” piece needs to be added to it! Measures 12” X 12”.
