I love this Great antique pie safe! Straight from an old estate (along with several other pieces in this auction) from Clearwater. The lady told us she remembers it in her grandparents home in Iowa when she was young. So we know at least it’s from Iowa. And…I asked about the green paint. She said the same thing; it was that color when she was a little girl. Keep it as is (it’s growing on me) or change the color. As for the pie safe, I believe it to be Chestnut. It is in very solid condition and has a little backsplash/galley area on top. All original punched tin panels. You will see in pics there’s a couple “natural” ones and the others are dark. Well, the dark stuff is all flaky. It’s falling right off. I believe it to be an old varnish or shellack that is now just flaking off. So it all will come off very easy. I just decided I wasn’t putting any work into it and going to let go as is. If you’re seeking a great early country pie safe this is it! If I didn’t already have a great one in my home I’d be finding room for it.
