Stunning sterling silver service for 12 people with serving pieces! Designed and manufactured by Joseph Seymour of J.S. & Co in 1920 for the International Silver Company (1920-1994). The International Silver Company, who stopped manufacturing sterling silver in 1983, owned many smaller silver makers and silverplate makers. They allowed these companies to trade under their own brand name which we see here with Joseph Seymour's company. The J.S. Co. hallmark is easy to recognize - it is an Indian head located beside the company initials on the back of every piece.
Very nice condition which commiserates with the age of this set. The pattern is PATHEON. There are no monograms! This was a very popular pattern back in the day, replicating a Grecian design. It has been copied over the years by other silversmiths, most notably the more modern day company, Tuttle Silversmiths. This gorgeous set includes the following pieces in order of the pictures below (all weights are in grams and are approximate):
- 1 gravy ladle 59.8g
- 1master butter knife and sugar shell 66.94g
- 12 individual butter knives 27.53g each
- 6 large serving spoons 72.53g each
- 1 meat serving fork 57.72g
- 12 Old French hollow dinner knives 71.28g each
- 11 New French hollow handled dinner knives 70.36g each
- 2-piece carving set
- 12 Place/Soup spoons 46.58g each
- 24 teaspoons 31.43g each
- 12 salad/dessert forks 32.02g each
- 12 dinner forks 59.69g each
- 1 relish fork (also serves as extra salad/dessert fork) 32g
A truly remarkable collection of antique sterling silver flatware which would make a beautiful heirloom set to pass down through the generations!
