Amazing and extremely rare. Pat (Patricia) Platero, daughter of the famous Navajo silversmith Vincent Platero, is world renowned for her amazing creations - she was a member of the Cañoncito Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. She was murdered in 2015 at the age of 49 and to this day, there have been no leads in the open case.
Look at the size of the Navajo sterling pearls in this piece! This squash blossom is a large one, measuring almost 25" in length. This is one of her earlier works estimated to be from the early 1990s (this was purchased directly from the artist in 1994) which makes this Old Pawn. She only incorporated Red Coral (not to be confused with Spiny Oyster) with Turquoise in her earlier pieces. Pat Platero worked alongside her father from the age of 10 and together they created many outstanding pieces, many of which are exhibited in museums worldwide to this day.
If you collect Native American Sterling Silver jewelry, you are already familiar with the Platero name. Every piece designed by Pat Platero is unique, and easily identifiable to many due to her craftsmanship. This squash blossom necklace is simply ... incredible.
